Formed in November 2016 during the 2nd Intergovernmental Forum for Agriculture. The Mechanism responds to the Constitution requirement articles 6, 174, 186, 187 &189 and is anchored in law, and Intergovernmental Relations Act 2012 (13.2, 23). The rationale behind its formation is commitment of the national and county governments to jointly pursue effective development of the agricultural sector. Its aim is to:
- guide the implementation of agricultural sector priorities as defined in 2016 Agriculture policy, National (Vision 2030), regional (CAADP, Maputo 2013 and Malabo 2014)and international commitments(SDGs)
- ensure agriculture contributes to equitable National economic growth and increased food security
